A Simple Trick to Easily Write High-Performing Ads for Your Business

If you're looking for a way to make your ads more effective, capture more attention, and get more customers... this article will show you exactly how to do it.

I vividly remember when I wrote my first ad. I hated every single second of it.

Do you know what the worst part was? My boss tasked me with writing that ad because I had just finished three years of business school studying economics, with a focus on marketing and sales.

We analyzed the largest and most successful companies in the world. But when I tried to use that knowledge to write an ad for our local business… I had no idea how to do it!

Looking at that blank page, I realized I was in trouble. And the longer I sat there, the stupider I felt.

The Secret Why Most Ads Don't Work

So I did some research to find the formula.

Some sources told me to use a cute puppy in my ad. Others said it was unprofessional.

Some sources told me to keep repeating my message over and over again. Others said that repetition annoys people and makes them NOT buy from you.

With the deadline fast approaching, I took a shortcut. I looked at our competitors' ads and did pretty much the same thing. How to copy your classmate's homework and modify it slightly so that it isn't an exact copy.

I showed it to my boss, he said it was fine and we ran the ad.

A few days pass and I hear nothing about the results. So I asked my boss what the results of the announcement were. He seemed slightly confused by the question:

"Uhhh... what do you mean 'results'?"

"The results of the ad we ran. Did we close any sales? Did we get more calls?" I asked him.

My boss smiled, leaned back and said:

“Nooo, Nikola. That's not how ads work! This ad was for brand awareness. To be the first one people think of. It's about branding, you know?”

I shrugged it off and said, “Sure, I understand.”

It was a lie. Because I didn't understand at all how those things could bring us more sales.

And now, almost 5 years later, I'll let you in on a little secret: I was lying to my boss, yes, but he was also lying to me.

Because he had no idea what he was talking about either.

Fixing Your Marketing

When we spend money on something, we measure the result.

It doesn't matter if we're spending money on equipment, lunch or suppliers - we make sure we get what we pay for, right?

When I started my business, I tried to do the same with marketing. Instead of results, I got a jumble of empty words.

"Well, this ad is for brand recognition"

“We are focusing on brand awareness in our market”

“This campaign is set to solidify our branding and brand positioning”

This is usually said in a slightly condescending tone, designed to make you feel stupid for even asking the question.

Here's the ugly truth:

"Most companies throw away at least half of their marketing budget. Probably more."

And that just didn't sit well with me.

How I Stopped Throwing Money Away... And How You Can Do the Same

I decided to get to the bottom of the matter and discover the formula for effective marketing.

The good news? The formula exists, and I found it.

The bad news? It took years and years of studying, putting the pieces together, testing, trial and error to understand what really worked.

If I were to write out all the elements of the formula, we'd be sitting here for weeks, so let me give you one of the best shortcuts I've found.

Some will already know it as "Pearson's Law".

“What you can measure, you can improve.”

Do you want to immediately and dramatically increase your ad results?

Make them measurable by adding a response mechanism. A response mechanism in every ad that asks the prospect to do something.

And then you monitor that aspect like a hawk.

Now you can measure. To test. Find out what works and what doesn't.

One of the first things I do when I start working with a client is implement this simple rule:

“Every announcement we make must be measurable, no exceptions.”

Enough with the jargon. No more confusing and senseless marketing. Measurable, tangible and concrete results.

There are many ways to do this and it is doable for every single business, including yours. If you want to know how we can apply it in your company, contact us:
